The Dam of Grande Dixence

From 15 June to 30 September. Every day.


Guided son et lumière tours, with sound and light effects, in the very heart of the dam:



  • 11h30, 13h30, 15h00, 16h30 (in case of particularly heavy demand: extra visits at 14h15 and 15h45).

  • The visit lasts: 01h00. Tickets are sold on site. Maximum number: 40 people per visit.

  • Price: Adults: CHF 10.- (starting from 16 years of age) Students/Apprentices: CHF 8.- (from 16 to 25 years) Pensioners: CHF 8.- Children: CHF 6.- (from 6 to 15 years) Groups: CHF 8.- (with a minimum of 10 people)

Visits to the head of the dam:



  • Ascent on foot (approx. 45 min.) or by cable car (round-trip fare: 7.- CHF per person for groups, otherwise 9.- per person).

  • The visit lasts: 01h00

The 285m high Grande Dixence dam, with a sorage capacity of 400 million m3,, is the highest concrete dam in the world. This gravity dam, with a volume of 6 million m3, is 200m thick at the base and 700m long and weighs 15 million tonnes. Inside the wall, 32 kilometres of tunnels and inspection shafts enable staff to constantly monitor the installation.

Les Gouilles d'Essertze

At 2 km from Thyon 2000 the marshy biotope including Les Gouilles d'Essertse covers a surface aera of approximately 5 ha.

The zones of marshes and ponds alternate between 2300 and 2500 m. The peat bog of Grand Tsa, highest of the Alps, conceals an exceptional flora.
